New Building Wrap and Weather Barrier from Premier Building Systems Enhances Building Envelope Benefits of Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs)

Fife, Wash., March 31, 2009 – To further extend the exceptional performance, energy savings and indoor comfort provided by its structural insulated panels (SIPs), Premier Building Systems (PBS) introduces the new PBS Building Wrap and Weather Barrier. Residential and commercial builders benefit from its simple application and enhanced protection of the structure, providing a protective shell for the customer. Home and building owners will appreciate the wrap for its role in reducing the potential for mold and mildew in the structure and for enhancing the insulation provided by the SIPs.

PBS Building Wrap and Weather Barrier provides a strong, breathable, water-resistant barrier for reliable protection of exterior wall assemblies. Micro-perforations in this new product allow vapor to escape from behind the wrap, while preventing water infiltration. It is lightweight and installs similar to other building wraps, making it easy to use. Plus, the cross-woven design aids in resisting tears around fasteners and during installation. An available factory-applied treatment helps the wrap resist excessive degradation from normal UV exposure from the sun for up to 300 days, providing builders with extended time to finish the exterior walls. Additional benefits to builders include the wrap’s translucency – which makes locating openings and corners easy.

“Structural insulated panels are the future of residential and light commercial building,” says James Hodgson, General Manager for PBS. “They provide a strong, predictable, and highly energy efficient structural building system that outperforms stick-built framing. Adding a building wrap further enhances the building envelope, protecting the structure from the elements.”

Premier SIPs are a high-performance engineered wood product with a super-insulating core of rigid expanded polystyrene (EPS), structurally laminated and pressure cured between two sheets of oriented strand board (OSB). By constructing a building very tightly with PBS SIPs, contractors can reduce the size requirements for heating and air conditioning units (HVAC) by up to 40%, providing immediate savings. And, homeowners can enjoy up to 60% lower energy bills annually.
