Project Overview
TOK Health Clinic (Upper Tanana Health Center)
End Use: The building will be utilized as a regional health center serving surrounding communities.
Why SIPs: There was a requirement by owner to meet certain energy savings. The R value required was achieved by using structurally insulated panels.
Benefit of SIPs: The three dimensional shop drawings provided by Premier saved time, energy, and created a very valuable tool for the assembly of the building. Having numbered panels with installation positions shown on shop drawings was incredibly beneficial while assembling in an arctic environment. The installation was quick and easy.
Innovative Design Elements: Nothing innovative or creative that pushed the envelope of constructability. The shape design was more natural with large arcs and framing.
Energy Use Intensity: 1000 gallons/month (~30.44 days in ave. month) = 32.85 gallons/day (BTU per gallon of heating fuel = 135,800) = 4461235 BTU = 4461kBTU/day divided by 17300 sqft = .258 kBTU/sqft per day
HVAC: The heating for the building is hydronic, utilizing primarily radiant floor and cabinet unit heaters. Ventilation and air conditioning are achieved with ducting throughout the building. Three oiled fueled boilers are utilized; one for back-up, and two when outdoor air temperatures are low. Most commonly, one will provide the heat required.
Energy-Saving or Energy-Efficient Products Used:
- Exterior windows were triple paned and required to meet a maximum U-Factor of .21.
- The roofing assembly was R-60.
- The building uses LED lighting throughout.
