Why SIPs?: The SIPS construction allowed us a shorter build time in a difficult location.
Benefits of SIPs: The combination of SIPS walls with attic trusses allowed us the design flexibility to have a clear span over the garage, with living space above.

Energy Use Intensity: Living area of 694 s/f has a total btuh of 5,573 on the design degree day, for an energy intensity of 8.030 btuh/sf.
HVAC System: Daikin Ductless heat pump, heats the living area and workspace below. A Tier 1 heat pump water heater provides the domestic hot water, COP of 2.25
Energy-Saving / Energy-Efficient Products:
- Vinyltek Windows (from Canada) have a U-value averaging .16.
- Floor insulation above a fully insulated garage is R-38.
- 100% of all lighting is LED,
- Appliances are all energy-star, including stacking front-load washing machine, dishwasher, and refrigerator.
- Heap pump water heater.
- Room on the roof for a 3.9 kW solar array would get the unit to zero energy

Other Comments: The air handling system features a MERV-21 HEPA filter, balancing the range fan, and providing make-up air for the Panasonic Whisper Green bath fan, which provides the ASHRAE 62.2 requirement for fresh air.
