Jobsite Video Series #8: Installing SIP Roofs For Impressive Spans, Speed & Efficiency
SIP roofs can span impressive distances, enabling cathedral ceilings and open spaces. Installation of these spaces is even easier. Large pre-insulated, and sheathed roof sections are pre-joined on the ground and lifted into place. Connecting panels form an extremely strong and energy efficient roof structure for any climate zone.

We’ve got some great visuals to show how SIP panel roofs are installed. As you progress with setting the SIP panels—from the corner, across beams, over eave walls, and onto gables—it’s critical to follow the recommended nailing patterns. This includes properly nailing at the splines and using Premier screws to secure the panels to the underlying support beams, walls, and structural framing.
SIPs rely heavily on structural adhesives for their incredible strength. I’m standing next to a laminated beam that’s designed to carry the load of the roof, and there’s a strong parallel between SIPs and these laminated beams. You’ve probably seen similar beams in restaurants, public buildings, or libraries. They are incredibly strong because they combine wood fibers with a powerful structural adhesive.
Guess what? Premier SIPs use the same kind of structural adhesive—applied differently, of course—but it’s the same superior bonding technology. That adhesive is a major reason why SIPs offer such outstanding strength and durability.
Once your SIP walls and roof panels are stood and installed, it’s important to protect them from the weather—especially in rainy climates or areas prone to heavy rain events. We strongly recommend applying an underlayment, even if it’s temporary, over the roof panels. It’s also essential to protect the wall panels with either a building wrap or a liquid-applied waterproofing solution.
