Jobsite Installation Video Series #1: Start with SIPs vs Sticks an Overview
This high level overview kicks off Premier's Installation Video Series, and details the key benefits of Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) as the superior building envelope system for commercial and residential construction projects.

Hello, I’m Mike Tobin with Premier Building Systems. We manufacture a building system called Premier SIPS. Over the next several days, we’ll be on a typical job site, watching our Premier SIPS being installed. We'll cover best practices for building a perfect building envelope and creating a high-performing structure.
Premier SIPS are made with high-quality materials, starting with a structural-grade, Exposure 1 OSB. This isn’t your typical lumber yard OSB—it’s a high-grade product with greater durability and weather resistance once it’s installed in the built environment.
The core of each SIP is a high-grade, stable R-value molded polystyrene that maintains its insulating power for many years. What holds the panel together is a structural adhesive—the same type used in glulam beams and other high-end structural applications. When you laminate all these high-quality materials together, you get a product that is built to last and perform at an exceptional level.
You’re probably familiar with traditional stick-built construction. Our approach is different because we take structural components and laminate them into one strong, unified panel. On average, our SIPs are about twice as strong as traditional stick framing and offer significantly better insulation performance.
When we say our SIPs are a faster way to build, it's because they’re prefabricated and ready to install when they arrive at the job site. They’re also greener. The OSB skins use regeneratable wood products—small trees that are easily regrown and harvested—which is fantastic for sustainability. The insulation core offers much better performance for heating and cooling your home, with many documented cases showing 60–70% energy savings when using Premier SIPs.
SIPs also create a healthier indoor environment. They help keep outdoor pollutants out and allow you to control the comfort level inside your home more effectively. They reduce wind infiltration that can bring in pollen and unwanted particulates, and they allow the use of heat recovery or energy recovery ventilating systems, helping to purify the air and keep it healthier and more comfortable for occupants.
Premier SIPs also address today's labor shortage. Because much of the work is done off-site, panels arrive ready to install, allowing a smaller crew—using mechanized equipment—to build faster and more efficiently.
Another advantage is waste reduction. With SIPs, the materials delivered to the job site are exactly what’s needed to build the walls, roofs, and sometimes even floors—drastically reducing job site waste compared to traditional construction.
Finally, Premier SIPs are precise. They are drawn and fabricated to exact measurements, ensuring a perfect fit at the job site. Unlike bowed lumber or imprecise materials that can lead to poor outcomes in traditional framing, SIPs maintain accuracy and consistency from start to finish.
