Project Overview
This cabin was the first prototype to be used for campers visiting the YMCA Camp. A stringent RFQ was required to receive the contract for this project as below:
- SUSTAINABILITY
The cabin will be built within a predefined territory in which environmentally sustainable and restorative techniques will be
employed. Techniques will aim towards a measurable goal such as LEED, Build It Green or the Living Futures Challenge. Wherever
possible sustainable components will be easily demonstrable and reinforce the educational goals of camp. - Because this camp has a wide diversity of campers who may have numerous allergies and other health concerns, we had to substantiate meeting a list of 22 materials of concern providing data these materials and toxins are not in the SIP Panels, we were the only company that could fulfill this list.
- This project exceeded all requirements by the YMCA and Architect. Therefore, it substantially saved labor and construction costs let alone the energy efficacy with the cabin. Because of using SIPs for the walls, floor and roof enabled the design for the architect and structural engineering.
CERTIFICATIONS:
LEED, Energy Start and National Green Building compliance were exceeded.
HVAC SYSTEM:
Extreme climate allowed for a large reduction with the HVAC system.
OTHER SUSTAINABLE FEATURES:
Sustainable and energy saving materials were used on all windows and other building materials for this project.
DESIGN FEATURES:
Only non-toxic materials sustainable were allowed to be used on this project.
COMMENTS:
What made this particular cabin unique was their commitment to be completely sustainable and energy efficient.
The YMCA is now planning on using this prototype cabin on all of their future developments
