Pacific Post and Beam
End Use: Single Family Residence
Why SIPs: The owners wanted a SIP building, and the builder did not have to sell the concept.
Benefits of SIPs: The biggest benefit for using SIPs was the incredible energy savings. It's not unusual to be over 100 degrees in the summer where this build took place. We also saved framing labor and have straighter plumb walls that are much harder to achieve with stick construction. With the ship lap, interior stick framing would have been much more difficult to work with.
Innovative Design Elements: We have a 5' crawl space with a concrete slab. That was expensive but a dream for the HVAC, vacuum system, audio visual, Internet and electrical contractors. There are timber frame trusses in the great room.
Certifications: We exceeded California's strict green building code standards
HVAC: Heat Pump
Solar: This is a 20 acre site with existing barn and solar panels that are incorporated into the new home.
"This project was built in a high fire danger area of California and has fireproof Hardie siding and a standing seam metal roof. The SIP roofing does not require venting and greatly reduces sparks getting into attics and starting fires."
