Project Overview
Wall Meadows Residence
End Use: Single family residential
Why SIPs?: The clients had researched building envelope systems and liked the SIPs. They asked their land surveyor if any local contractors built with SIPS, and he referred them to Enright Construction. The builder worked with the clients to design an affordable home with 'Age in Place' features. The result is a great looking home that cost far less to build than comparable homes in the area.
Benefits of SIPs: This house was designed from the beginning to use SIPs in the most efficient manner, with common sense dimensions that used SIPs for high value shear walls, which is important in this location due to high winds and high seismic potential. The entire envelope was built by two and a half carpenters in three months. As we continued the construction process though the winter, we always appreciate the comfort level inside the structure. It sure is nice when the trades can do their work without freezing while the snow piles up outside.
Innovative Design Elements: We like to go with 6x12 rafter beams to support the SIP roof, not only to allow for a continuously insulated roof, but to feature the large beams inside. When the beams are placed to line up nicely with the windows, it feels good to be inside the room.
HVAC: A 200,000 tankless water heater feeds the hydronic tubing in the concrete slab for heat, while a mini split air conditioning system provides the cooling. A HRV keeps the indoor air fresh.
